From a story (opens in new tab) by Jacob Blane, Annabelle Garland, and Sam Gross

In 1965, a handful of students were infamously suspended from a high school in what city after wearing black armbands in protest of the Vietnam War?

And by the way, did you know that Pedro Lascuráin, Mexico’s 38th president, held the office for only 45 minutes? That’s about one minute for every year that Hoxha led his country.

In 1913, Lascuráin, then Mexico’s foreign secretary, assumed the role after a U.S.-supported coup deposed President Francisco Madero, his vice president, and his attorney general. Then the leader of the coup, Victoriano Huerta, kindly requested that Lascuráin appoint Huerta as interior secretary—the next job in line to the presidency. Unsurprisingly, Huerta’s next request was that Lascuráin resign.

Lascuráin obliged, ending the world’s shortest presidency, as well as possibly the most protocol-oriented coup d’état.

Until tomorrow!
