More than 1,000 people were killed by a powerful earthquake that shook Morocco late yesterday, forcing residents to flee their homes in the middle of the night. The 6.8-magnitude quake caused widespread damage in both small villages and the city of Marrakesh. Rescue operations are under way, though they are slowed by damaged roads and communication networks, in a race to find those who remain trapped.
