Trump’s Shifting Control Over the GOP
Panelists joined to discuss the president’s travels to red states ahead of the midterm elections.

President Trump has begun traveling to red states in a bid to generate voter enthusiasm ahead of the midterms. On Washington Week With The Atlantic, panelists joined to discuss how the president is trying to maintain his control over the GOP as the election draws nearer.
Because of rising prices, the prolonged conflict in Iran, and other factors, “Republicans are not in a good place; the White House is not in a good place,” Zolan Kanno-Youngs, a White House correspondent at The New York Times, argued last night. “In response to that challenge, you are seeing the president not say, Distance yourself from me; do what you’ve got to do, but rather, Pretend I am on the ballot.”
Joining the editor in chief of The Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg, to discuss this and more: Kanno-Youngs; Janay Kingsberry, a staff writer at The Atlantic; Michelle Price, a White House reporter at The Associated Press; Steve Inskeep, the host of NPR’s Morning Edition.
